The every day normal

Spread the love

I’ve had someone say to me once that since I work full-time and have 5 kids my house must not be clean. Yes, my house is messy on most days. Not because my husband and I don’t clean it…trust me, we do. It’s also not because I work full time. Some days, we can clean a room multiple times. My house is messy because I have 5 kids and I swear they have a radar. I can clean a room and within 5 minutes I see shoes that weren’t there before. Stuffed animals or baby dolls that I didn’t know existed are laying on my kitchen table. I give credit to those stay at home parents. When I was on maternity leave, I feel like I was cleaning and picking up toys a majority of my day.

Regardless of how many kids you have, regardless if you work full-time, part-time or you stay at home, with young kids at home, I don’t think anyone can keep their house clean for more than an hour.

There are also days that we might not eat dinner until 7 or 8. I would love nothing more to have dinner on the table ready to eat at 5:30 or 6:00. During the summer, between sports, letting the kids go out and play, swimming, pushing them on the swings or watching them jump on the trampoline. I’ll usually go in around 6:00 just to start dinner. But spending that hour with the kids after I get off work is what I look forward to. This might not be the norm for people but it is for us.
